Certified B Corporation®
Lake Champlain Chocolates is proud to be a certified B Corporation®. We believe in a better way of doing business and this holistic certification confirms our commitment to progressive social and environmental business practices, accountability, and transparency.
In Pursuit of Extraordinary Chocolate Moments
Over 40 years ago, Lake Champlain Chocolates was born out of a dare to do better. As a pioneer in the American chocolate movement, we strived to create the best-tasting chocolates imaginable. This meant sourcing only the highest-quality fresh, local ingredients and never using preservatives or artificial flavors.
Today, our pursuit of the extraordinary continues and our B Corporation certification exemplifies this. We are committed not only to be the best in the world, but to be the best for the world by supporting cacao-growing communities and using 100% fair trade certified chocolate, reducing toxins in the environment by sourcing organic ingredients, whenever possible, and continuing to make extraordinary gourmet chocolates for all to enjoy.
Over the past year, we've been working hard on a number of social and environmental initiatives. Read our annual impact report to learn about what we've been up to:
What is a B Corp?
Unlike other certifications that look at individual products, B Corporation evaluates the entire business — assessing the yearly impact on the environment, workers, customers, community, and government. This new type of corporation is purpose-driven to create benefits for all, not just shareholders, working together to be the change we seek in the world.
For Lake Champlain Chocolates these performance standards provide a valuable third-party measurement tool, assuring our customers and suppliers that LCC’s business practices meet the highest of standards, just like our chocolates. Achieving B Corp Certification is the next step towards fulfilling our company’s vision to become the gold standard of chocolate companies in the United States, a respected leader other companies aspire to be.” says Eric Lampman, LCC President. “For 40 years, our practices have been guided by one core value – ‘everything must measure up to the chocolate.’ And this includes making a positive impact on our local and global communities by respecting our employees, fostering long-term partnerships with our suppliers, and practicing environmental responsibility.”
The Company We Keep
We are excited to be a part of the growing community of more than 8,000 certified B Corporations worldwide who are united under one common goal – to redefine success in business. Rather than focus solely on profits, certified B Corporations are leaders of a global movement of people using business as a force for good. They meet the highest standards of overall social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability and aspire to use the power of business to solve social and environmental problems.
Of this growing community of social and environmentally responsible businesses, 43 are located right here in our home state of Vermont. Vermont Creamery, Seventh Generation, Ben & Jerry’s, and King Arthur Flour, just to name a few. “It’s exciting to join a global movement of companies who are committed to using business as a force for good,” says Lampman. “We’re looking forward to learning from and collaborating with the B Corp community to inspire other businesses to compete not only to be the best in the world but to be the best for the world.”
